Girls’ Night Sing – 100th Anniversary International Women’s Day Event

Posted on: 2 March 2011

Plan UK is hosting an event called Girls’ Night Sing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day!

Annually on the 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate their achievements. This centennial year is even more special.

Girls’ Night Sing is Plan’s way of drawing attention to our Because I am a Girl campaign, which helps lift millions of girls out of poverty and into education. Across the world, girls face discrimination due to their gender and poverty, leaving them at the bottom of the social ladder. So we’re trying to change this! We tackle these issues by raising money to fund and deliver projects that directly help girls across the world change their lives through education. We also put pressure on decision makers, getting them to take action and deliver education for girls in the world’s poorest countries.

We’ve received worldwide acknowledgment from humanitarian heavy weights such as Graca Machel DBE, a leading ambassador for children’s rights along with her husband Nelson Mandela and Africa’s first elected female head of state Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Queen Rania of Jordan also recently tweeted in support.

We hope you are all looking forward to Plan’s Girls’ Night Sing for International Women’s Day!

We are hosting the event at the University of London Union, and as it is a student venue, we have introduced student prices and thought we’d offer this price for staff too! Tickets for staff (and students) are now only £5, a real bargain for a karaoke night featuring performances from Gabriella Cilmi, Janiece Myers, and followed by fantastic tunes for you to sing along to.

You will have a goodie bag to take home with you, and you may also be lucky enough to win one of our amazing raffle prizes, which include champagne, designer clothes, a Harley Davidson biker suit and a flight in a private plane!

It would be great if you could buy your tickets in advance, so we have an idea of numbers. Tickets are £5 for students and staff and £10 for everyone else – please feel free to bring friends along too, men and women welcome!

Tickets will be sold from the ULU Bar, or on the Night.
If not buy them online!

It would be wonderful to have lots of supporting students at the event and it is going to be a great night, so we hope to see you all there!
