1) Cambridge graduate Claire Norman will be discussing International Women’s Day within the context of the progression of women’s fiction.

A relaxation in censorship laws during the English civil wars enabled more women writers to publish more texts primarily aimed at a female audience. Historically, women who wrote for publication were not considered to be engaging in ‘a socially approved activity’. Claire will lead a light discussion about the history of women in fiction, women’s fiction, and how women as audience came to define a crucial period of literary history.

2) Artist Alix Edwards will be talking about her work BLOOM IN WOMEN which is currently on show in our exhibition area. These colourful photographs demonstrate how the surreal can co-exist in nature and urban and will be appearing at three venues around East London. Discover a whole new world captured in these vibrant macro images by photographer Alix Edwards!

All welcome. Tea and coffee will be served.

You can also meet photographer Alix Edwards this Saturday, March 12th at the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S FAIR where Artists, Book Publishers, Craftswomen, Designers, Women’s Groups & Organisations will celebrate international Women’s day together in Spitalfields Traders Market, Brushfield Street E1 6AA from 10am to 5pm.
