Celebrate 100 years of International Women’s Day on Friday with guest speaker Maidenhead MP Theresa May

Posted on: 9 March 2011

The Home Secretary is also minister for women and equalities, and will be joined at the meeting by Gerry Lejeune from East Berkshire Women’s Aid, TVP superintendent Tim de Meyer, and Liz McKean from Amnesty International.

Mike Copland, of the Cookham and Maidenhead branch of Amnesty, said: “There are still real and challenging issues for women that need to be addressed in the UK, as well as internationally, and we hope that this meeting will give voice to them.

“We encourage anyone in Maidenhead with an interest in these concerns to join us on Friday to celebrate what has been achieved and to look at what still needs to be done.”

The free meeting, chaired by Cllr Kathy Newbound, is at the Methodist Church Hall, High Street/King’s Street, from 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
