Take the opportunity to find out more about the positive impact of Fair Trade at Divine’s Fairtrade Farmers’ Tour, 2011

Between the 28th February and 13th March 2011, Fairtrade Fortnight and Divine Chocolate will be touring the UK to promote awareness of fair trade. The annual event gives you the opportunity to hear firsthand about cocoa farmers’ lives and the impact that fair trade has on them.

This year’s tour has a special focus on women to celebrate the International Women’s Day’s centenary. Two of the women from the Ghanaian cocoa co-operative, Kuapa Kokoo, Harriet Boatemaa and Fatima Ali, will be leading the tour and will be explaining just why the roles played by women are so crucial for the cocoa growing process.

The tour will take in Liverpool, Warrington, Bradford, London, Oxford and Cardiff and Harriet and Fatima will be meeting with businesses, shoppers, schools and political representatives to spread the word about the positive impact that Fairtrade has on the cocoa farming community in Ghana.

Cost: Free
Date: Monday 28 February- 13 March 2011

For the second year running the Co-operative Membership team has asked Daisy Green Events to collaborate and host their International Women’s Day event in Newcastle and we are thrilled!

The emphasis is very much on celebrating women, fair trade and locally run businesses.

Last year’s event was a roaring success with local businesses selling their wares and a huge clothes swap.

This year, we will have goody bags for everyone, food tasting, raffles, stalls, the clothes swap and we have just confirmed crafting tables dedicated to making fairtrade bunting for the Fairtrade Foundation to help them break the world record for the world’s longest string of bunting!

The co-operative membership’s chosen charity for 2011 is Mencap and all donations raised via the raffles will be donated to them.

On Sunday March 6th, to celebrate the centenary of International Women’s Day, a unique event will be taking place hosted by North West Women’s Ambassador Lisa Rossetti. Up to 100 women will meet to share their stories while walking in the beautiful and historic Chester River Meadows.

Walking the Stories is inspired by the women of Ghana and their mentoring walks. As Lisa explains: “Walking and learning is a traditional practice in many cultures. Since time immemorial and across the world, women share conversations and stories as they walk together – to fields and farms, to the well, or to the market-place.”

Now Power of Stories coach Lisa is bringing Walking the Stories to women in the North West. During the walk, professional coach-mentors will offer free mentoring. And, afterwards, Lisa – with story-practitioner Lizzie Gates – will facilitate a story-telling event to honour ‘Women’s hope, courage and resilience through the centuries’.

The 1pm meeting point is to be announced and the post-walk story event venue will be Riverside, Castle Drive, Chester, CH1 1SG. Participants will pay £20 (£10 for the unemployed).

Profits will go to Rights & Humanity – an international organisation (recently relocated to Liverpool) helping poor and disadvantaged women and their families.

Participants and coaches, mentors and events’ organisers wishing to be involved with Walking the Stories should contact Lisa at info@positivelives.co.uk or telephone her on 01244 678850.
